The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a three-day weather forecast, predicting widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across the country from Monday, June 2, to Wednesday, June 4, 2025. The outlook, released on Sunday in Abuja, advises the public to take necessary precautions due to the anticipated weather conditions.
Monday, June 2, 2025:
- Northern States: Morning thunderstorms are expected in Taraba, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Sokoto, Katsina, Jigawa, and Kano. Later in the day, additional rains are anticipated in parts of Taraba, Kaduna, Sokoto, Borno, Kebbi, and Zamfara.
- North-Central Region: Morning thunderstorms with rain are forecast for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger, and Nasarawa. By afternoon and evening, thunderstorms are expected to extend to Plateau, Kwara, Kogi, and Benue States, along with the FCT and Nasarawa.
- Southern States: A cloudy morning is expected, with rainfall likely in areas including Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Ebonyi, Abia, Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom. Later in the day, rain showers are anticipated across a wider range including Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, Lagos, Anambra, Imo, Enugu, Delta, and Bayelsa.

Tuesday, June 3, 2025:
- Northern States: Morning thunderstorms and rain are expected in states such as Kano, Zamfara, Katsina, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Borno, Yobe, and Taraba. In the afternoon and evening, rainfall is anticipated in Taraba, Kebbi, Borno, Gombe, Adamawa, Kaduna, Bauchi, and Katsina.
- North-Central Region: Morning thunderstorms and rain will again occur in the FCT, Niger, and Nasarawa, with later showers predicted in Kogi, Kwara, and Plateau.
- Southern States: Morning thunderstorms are forecast over Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Ebonyi, Abia, Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom. This will be followed by widespread rain showers later in the day across states including Lagos, Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Delta, and Bayelsa.
Wednesday, June 4, 2025:
- Northern States: Morning thunderstorms are expected in parts of Zamfara, Adamawa, and Kaduna. Rainfall is also likely during the afternoon and evening in Sokoto, Kebbi, and Taraba.
- North-Central Region: Thunderstorms with rain are expected over parts of the FCT, Nasarawa, Niger, and Benue during the morning hours. Later in the day, thunderstorms with rains are anticipated over parts of Nasarawa, Plateau, the FCT, Kwara, Kogi, and Niger.
- Southern States: Morning rains are anticipated over parts of Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Edo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom. Rain is expected over the entire southern region in the afternoon or evening hours.
NiMet advises the public to stay updated with weather information and take necessary precautions, especially in flood-prone and storm-affected areas.
The agency also warned that strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur, urging the public to secure loose objects and avoid driving under heavy rainfall.
