The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather alert warning of widespread thunderstorms, moderate to heavy rainfall, and the potential for flash floods across various parts of the country from Monday, July 28 to Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
In its daily weather outlook released on Sunday, July 27, NiMet said that several northern, central, and southern states are expected to experience varying degrees of rainfall, with some regions at high risk of flooding.
On Monday morning, thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are anticipated in parts of Jigawa, Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi, Yobe, and Katsina, while other parts of the North are expected to experience sunny conditions with patches of cloud.
By the afternoon and evening, the rainfall is expected to intensify and spread to Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba. Flash floods may occur in Bauchi, Jigawa, Katsina, Kaduna, and Kano.
On Tuesday, the region will witness sunny skies with patches of clouds, but thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected to return in the morning in Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Kaduna, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Katsina, and Kano. Later in the day, storms are forecast across Adamawa, Taraba, Jigawa, Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto, and Kebbi.
By Wednesday, more morning thunderstorms are expected across Kaduna, Kebbi, Taraba, Sokoto, Zamfara, Yobe, Jigawa, Kano, and Katsina, with continued rainfall into the evening in Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, and other states.

Cloudy morning skies are expected on Monday, with light to moderate rainfall in Niger, Benue, FCT, Plateau, and Nasarawa. Rainfall is projected to persist into the afternoon and evening, affecting Kogi as well.
Tuesday will bring similar conditions, with morning rain in Niger, Benue, FCT, Kogi, Plateau, and Nasarawa, and moderate rainfall later in Plateau, Kwara, and others.
On Wednesday, cloudy skies will persist, with morning thunderstorms in Plateau, Niger, FCT, and Nasarawa, followed by moderate rains in the FCT, Benue, and surrounding states later in the day.
On Monday morning, cloudy skies are expected, giving way to light to moderate rainfall in parts of Ondo, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom in the afternoon and evening.
On Tuesday, morning rains are likely in Akwa Ibom and Cross River, while moderate showers are expected across Abia, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom later in the day.
By Wednesday, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Cross River will see morning rains, with widespread moderate to heavy rains predicted in Ebonyi, Abia, Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom during the evening.
NiMet has highlighted the increased risk of flash flooding in several states, particularly Bauchi, Katsina, Jigawa, Kano, Kaduna, and Plateau, and has urged relevant authorities to activate emergency response mechanisms.
Airline operators were also advised to obtain up-to-date airport-specific weather reports and flight documentation from NiMet offices for safe flight planning.
