Indigenous automaker, Nord Automobiles, has delivered 50 high-capacity Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) city buses to the Federal Government through the Ministry of Finance, marking a major milestone in Nigeria’s efforts to modernize urban transportation while deepening local manufacturing.

The official handover took place on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the company’s assembly facility in Epe, Lagos. Speaking at the ceremony, the Executive Chairman of Nord Automobiles, Oluwatobi Ajayi, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to meeting Nigeria’s rising demand for commercial and passenger mobility solutions.

Ajayi commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for enforcing the Nigeria First Policy, which encourages government and private-sector patronage of locally manufactured products.

“This is an opportunity to showcase our industrial capacity as one of Nigeria’s foremost automakers and to support President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to give Nigerians a better quality of life—including affordable transportation,” Ajayi said. “We have delivered according to budget, according to specification, and on schedule.”

He added that the Presidential CNG Initiative (PCNGi) will determine the deployment strategy, noting that the buses are expected to be distributed across the six geopolitical zones.

Ajayi emphasized that the buses were fully assembled at Nord’s Epe plant, underscoring the cost advantages of CNG-powered vehicles over petrol and diesel models.

He also disclosed that the factory has expanded its production capacity to over 20,000 units annually, positioning the company to handle large-scale orders. In addition to buses, Nord manufactures sedans, SUVs, and other mobility solutions, and is currently assembling 1,000 tricycles in Kwara State.

According to Ajayi, Nord is the first company to deliver 100 percent of its commitments under the national CNG programme.

“We also possess the capacity to maintain the buses. Our after-sales network is the widest among Nigerian assemblers—you can verify that on the BPP website,” he said.

Each of the newly delivered buses is designed to transport 60 passengers—30 seated and 30 standing—and comes equipped with: Full air-conditioning; In-built surveillance cameras; Electronic ticketing system; Fire extinguisher; Spacious aisle and large viewing windows; Decentralized air-conditioning with individual vents; Phone charging ports at every seat.
