No fewer than 34,000 police officers deployed for the Anambra governorship election descended on the state Thursday, according to Commissioner of Police Echeng Eworo Echeng.
“We intend to dominate everywhere in this state and the dominance is to reassure the good people of Anambra that they’re secured. Everybody should come out and exercise their civic responsibility on the 6th of November,” he said.
IPOB has threatened to shut down with a sit-at-home-order the state and others i the southeast over the DSS continued detention of its leader Namdi Kanu standing trial for terrorism and treason.
There has been fear the November 6 guber election may not hold or may turn violent.
According to him, IGP Usman Baba is very passionate, and has a psychological attachment to this election, the reason he provided everything this state command asked for.
“We have support of the helicopters for aerial surveillance. We have gunboats to patrol the waterways. We have enough vehicles to operate during this election. And from tomorrow, you will be seeing us in the streets,” he said as he promised the police will be civil and professional.
“But for the troublemakers, we are going to be firm and decisive on anybody who tries to prevent anybody from doing what is the right thing to do,” Echeng said.
