THE Director General of the National Youth Services Corps (NYSC), Brig Gen. Johnson B. Olawumi, has warned Contractors not to compromise standards.
The Director General who spoke through the NYSC Director of procurement, Alhaji Bashir Yakasai, handed down this warning in his address during the opening of financial bid for procurement and supply of capital items for 2015 financial year held in Abuja.
His words, “As stakeholders in the NYSC business, you are not only contractors now, but also members of the NYSC family whose first constituency and interest is the overall success of the larger family. It is our belief therefore, that you will earn our trust and improve in the area of procurement and supply of high quality materials, in line with the NYSC tradition of excellence and patriotism. Our contractors are fully aware that the NYSC scheme does not compromise standards. Therefore, any contractor who fails to meet our set standards will have his/her contract with the NYSC terminated.”
This apart, he drew the attention of contractors on the need for timely delivery of service and warned that any delayed service will be viewed seriously by management and such contractors will no longer enjoy the patronage of the NYSC Scheme.
According to the NYSC Boss, the Tender opening Exercise is a new dimension in line with the Transformation Agenda of the Federal Government. He noted that the Bidding Exercise is also highly competitive which is in line with due process. “Through this method, we ensure fairness, transparency, standard, accountability and value for money in the procurement of goods and service”, he added.
He also expressed his sincere appreciation to the representative of the Honorable Minister, Youth Development, Director General, Bureau of Public Procurement, Chairman, House Committee on Public Procurement, Executive Director, Fiscal Transparency and Accountability Initiative and President, Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria for attending the Exercise.
