Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has subtly suspended his retirement from partisan politics in about three years he tore his membership card of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at a time he was declared total support for Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in opposition to former President Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP, in the buildup to the 2015 presidential election.

Beside his early activities of organizing the Coalition for Nigeria Movement after his famous Treatise of January 23, 2018, admonishing President Buhari not to re-contest in 2019, towards building a Third Force in the polity, Dr. Obasanjo subsequently, led the CNM, which he previously thought should operative as a pressure group, to fuse into the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The emergence of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) from the MoU the PDP signed with 36 other political parties on Monday including the ADC, further pulled Dr. Obasanjo out of the confine of retirement.

While the CUPP alliance was being sealed at the Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, Obasanjo, on the same Monday, attended the campaign rally of Oladipupo Adebutu of the PDP, held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

National Daily gathered that  the former President, driving into the campaign venue at the Presidential Library, in a convoy of cars; went straight to the podium where Adebutu, representing Remo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and his supporters were gathered, took the microphone and addressed the crowd.

However, Dr. Obasanjo was gathered to have explained: “I am just passing by and decided to say hello and wish you well.” He, thereafter, departed for other engagements amidst loud ovation and cheers from the PDP supporters who suddenly found Baba in their midst.

Obasanjo has been mobilizing other retired Army Generals and former Heads of State and Presidents to unseat President Buhari in 2019.
