In a move signaling early mobilisation ahead of the 2027 presidential election, supporters of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, have inaugurated a new grassroots organisation, dubbed the ‘Village Boys Movement’, aimed at fostering community-level engagement and rallying support for the former governor.

The movement, launched on Thursday in Abuja, is seen as a counterpart to the ‘City Boys Movement’, an initiative spearheaded by Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, to galvanize urban support for the President’s re-election bid.

Speaking at the launch, Maazị Tochukwu Ezeoke, convener of the Village Boys Movement, introduced himself as the “Village Headmaster” and outlined the philosophy guiding the organisation.

According to him, the movement embodies a vision of a Nigeria “that works before it earns and earns before it spends,” emphasizing prudence, accountability, and ethical leadership.

Ezeoke clarified that the initiative is not antagonistic toward cities but rather seeks to offer a moral and ethical contrast in political mobilisation. “The issue is not geography but the source of wealth, the ethics of leadership, and the structure of accountability,” he said.

Observers note that the launch of the Village Boys Movement reflects the intensifying political strategies of parties and candidates as the 2027 elections draw closer, with grassroots mobilization playing an increasingly pivotal role in shaping voter sentiment across Nigeria.
