Obi speaks on African Leadership’s Role in Fostering Global Citizenship and Social Responsibility at Cambridge

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, in an interactive session with students of the Cambridge University and Anglia Ruskin University, the United Kingdom (UK), spoke on “African Leadership’s Role in Fostering Global Citizenship and Social Responsibility”.

Obi articulated that, ” like other progressive nations of the world, Nigeria, and indeed, Africa, will achieve global citizenship for the people through critical investments in human development, measured through the human development indices (HDI) namely; health, education, and fighting poverty.”

According to Obi, “global citizenship entails acknowledging our shared humanity, the inter-connectedness of our existence that transcends geographical, cultural, and ideological divides;” adding “the critical roles of leadership in promoting inclusivity, tolerance, and collaboration globally and in raising global leaders who advance the cause of humanity.”

Obi in a statement @PeterObi highlighted:

“Yesterday, I had the pleasure and honour of addressing a joint session of students at two Universities in the United Kingdom, Cambridge University and Anglia Ruskin University, where I shared ideas on “African Leadership’s Role in Fostering Global Citizenship and Social Responsibility”.

“In the interaction, I discussed global citizenship which entails acknowledging our shared humanity, the inter-connectedness of our existence that transcends geographical, cultural, and ideological divides, while mentioning the critical roles of leadership in promoting inclusivity, tolerance, and collaboration globally and in raising global leaders who advance the cause of humanity.

“These critical areas of human development, when prioritized by any committed leadership will transform a nation and engender sustainable development for the greater good of all humanity.

“In our journey to a New Nigeria, I have consistently maintained our firm resolve to build a nation where every Nigerian, especially the youths, will have an enabling environment to grow, contribute to our national development, and make positive impacts on the global community by proffering solutions to many global challenges.

“I thank the organizers of the program for their initiative and the honour of inviting me, and the audience for the lively discussions. Together we will continue to build a better humanity. -PO”
