Former Military Administrator of Ogun State, General Tunji Olurin (RTD.) is dead.
Olurin who died at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) in the early hours of Saturday, aged 77.
The deceased’s brother, Funso Olurin disclosed this in Abeokuta on Saturday According to him, Olurin died after a brief illness.
Olurin who was also a former Military Administrator of Ekiti state between from October 8, 2006 until April 27, 2007 hailed from Ilaro in Ogun West Senatorial district of Ogun state.
He was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship candidate in the 2011 general election in Ogun state.
Olurin, a Field Commander of ECOMOG Peacekeeping Force in Liberia from 1992 to 1993 during the First Liberian Civil War, retired from service in 1993.
General Adetunji Idowu Olurin of the popular Olurin family in Ilaro Yewa, served Nigeria and ECOWAS in many capacities among which are ECOMOG Commander, Military Administrator of Oyo State, Civilian Administrator of Ekiti State and Chancellor of Nigeria’s first University of Education, TASUED. Olurin was the Commander, 1st Mechanized Brigade, Minna, GOC, 3rd Armoured Division, Jos.
He has also lectured on peacekeeping at the International Peace Academy, the National War College, and United Nations seminars in Ghana, Nigeria, and Senegal. Olurin has been the recipient of many honours including the United Nations Peace Medal and the Knight Commander of the Humane Order of African Redemption (KCHOAR), Liberia’s highest national honour award.
He is an honorary paramount chief of the Republic of Liberia. May Almighty God forgive his shortcomings and grant all that he left behind the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
