Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has approved the appointment of Nollywood icon Mercy Johnson-Okojie as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Thursday in Benin by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Musa Ikhilor.
Johnson-Okojie is widely regarded as one of Nollywood’s most accomplished actresses, with a career spanning nearly two decades and appearances in over 200 films.
She has earned multiple awards and nominations for her performances, including recognition at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) and other major industry platforms.
Beyond acting, she is also a producer and entrepreneur, building a reputation as one of the most influential figures in Nigeria’s film industry.
In addition to her entertainment achievements, Johnson-Okojie is known for her philanthropic initiatives. Through the Mercy Johnson Okojie Foundation, she has championed causes focused on women empowerment, child welfare, education support and healthcare outreach.

She has consistently used her platform to promote civic awareness, social responsibility and community development, earning respect beyond the entertainment space.
In her new capacity as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy, Johnson-Okojie is expected to leverage her public influence, communication skills and grassroots appeal to strengthen engagement between Edo residents and the state government.
Her role will involve promoting awareness of government policies and programmes, fostering dialogue with communities, and enhancing public participation in governance.
Observers say the appointment signals the Okpebholo administration’s intention to tap into influential voices to broaden citizen engagement and improve communication between government and the people.
