Doyin Okupe, a former presidential aide, says President Bola Tinubu’s trip to the United Kingdom (UK) will allow him to reflect on the policies of his administration.

On October 2, the presidency shared the news about President Tinubu planning to leave Abuja and travel to the United Kingdom for a vacation that will last for two weeks. This trip is part of his annual leave, a time when he can take a break from his official duties. The announcement explained that during these two weeks away, President Tinubu intends to combine relaxation with work, using the time to focus on his responsibilities as a leader. Specifically, he will be taking this opportunity to think deeply about the economic reforms that his administration has been implementing. The presidency assured everyone that he would return to Nigeria after his leave period comes to an end, ready to continue his work with fresh insights and renewed energy.

However, many Nigerians have criticised the president’s trip at the time of widespread economic hardship in the country. Speaking in an interview with NAN in Lagos on Thursday, Okupe slammed critics of the president’s vacation, describing them as “uninformed.”

He said the president needed a peaceful atmosphere to reassess his cabinet, adding that it would help him to avoid interference from political associates.
