A Member of Lagos State House of Assembly, on. Femi Saheed in commemoration of his one year in office has addressed the mobility challenge of students in Kosofe Constituency 2 by providing two buses to transport them to and fro school for free, as he bolsters 561 constituent’s businesses with cash grants.
The level headed lawmaker who also recognized brilliance across schools, gave best students selected across schools in his constituency cash prizes to encourage them to do more in future.
In further attempt to better the lots of the constituents, Saheed also sunk six boreholes in the constituency for the provisions of potable water, as he made provision of several large pet bottle trash bin to tackle indiscriminate disposal of waste which further constitutes needless blockage of the drainage in the area.
He added that empty pet bottles if well collected can translate to economic gains when eventually sold to ready buyers.
The event which took place at the newly built Agboyi-Ketu Shopping Arcade on Thursday had in attendance Speaker of the House,  Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, members of the elected executives of All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in Lagos, Traditional rulers, Community leaders, Christians Association of Nigeria ( CAN), Muslims Community, Market men and Women, youths and Students.
Giving his speech at the  event, Saheed said that he owe constituents the duty to give back to them, having been elected to represent them given the tutelage he had been exposed to in party and the mentorship of Obasa, which he declared has imbued in him better understanding on how to sustain  relationships with constituents.
“I want to tell you that more empowerment is coming on board. This is just a start. Initially, we wanted to give cash grant to 250 people but later decided to increase it to 561.
“In March, we donated 400 furniture to schools across the constituency and thereafter, we discovered there is need to cater for the health of our people.  This made us to collaborate with Rotary Club Isheri to perform surgery for ten beneficiaries .
“Two buses have been procured to give free rides for our pupils and students across the constituency from Monday to Friday, we benefited that during late Alhaji Lateef Jakande’s era so we are replicating same.
“I owe you a great duty to get back to you for having voted me in with this cash grant for 561 people it is not yet empowerment, that will also come.
“I also have joy to disclose as well that amidst the proposed mini stadia to be built in the state, one has been earmarked for us in this constituency.” Saheed said.
While appreciating the lawmaker, the Apex Leader of APC in Kosofe, Chief Steven Oyedele, said the empowerment was historical and that it was all encompassing.
Oyedele described the lawmaker as a ‘ long-time party man’ who is not only making his constituents proud but also the party.
“We are monitoring him, we can see he is performing and he will not fail us in Kosofe constituency 2”, said Oyedele.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon Mudashiru Obasa, counselled the constituents on the benefits of re-electing experienced legislators, saying that it was always hard for a new comer to attract dividends of democracy to their constituencies, especially when not allowed to grow in the legislature.
Obasa said the more a lawmaker is voted into the legislature, the more he would be able to make demands for his people, adding that legislative business is a cardinal aspect of democratic governance.
“All these are personally sponsored from his earnings to put something in place that benefits his people it is not easy but borne out of his passionate love for constituents.
He is a resourceful lawmaker, intelligent and brilliant as he always make useful contributions to all issues on the floor of the house, we need to ensure continuity with patience for the legislator representing us.
Dividends attracted by a Newcomer and ranking members are different, it counts in delivery let’s continue to support capable people.
If we send someone once and substitute such afterward, it goes without saying that the process start all over again. Experienced lawmaker is required for better governance in Lagos.”
The Speaker later commissioned the two free buses accompanied by pupils and other dignitaries at the event.
