The Chief Dan Orbih-led faction of the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has again defeated the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led faction in the state following a ruling by a Federal High Court mandating the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to only recognized candidates produced by the Orbih-led faction.
In the judgment delivered on Thursday, Judge, Justice Ekwo Affirmed that the Obaseki’s Faction had no documented evidence that their primaries were monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC which is a vital aspect of the New Electoral Act, 2022.

The Judge had struck out the preliminary objections raised by Gov. Obaseki’s Faction for lack of Merits.
In the substantive matters, the Judge said that all evidence shows that the primaries held by Dan Orbih’s Faction were duly monitored by INEC as organized by the PDP.
He then made a declaration that INEC must only recognize the Candidates produced from the primaries of the PDP which they monitored.
This judgment should put the protracted case to rest and confirm that the Legacy PDP members are truly Authentic Candidates for the 2023 General Elections.
It would be recalled that the Appeal Court in Benin had on 23rd November 2022 struck out the judgment of the Benin high court which the Obaseki-led faction was relying on.
