Growing up, I often heard, “Evil thinkers are Evil Doers”. This was often said to chide us from thinking evil and negative thoughts. We were often encouraged as children to think about good things. As I grew older, I have seen scriptures that speak about our thoughts. The one in particular that I like is Philippians 4:8 “finally brothers and sisters, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things”.
As I’ve read this scripture, I’ve wondered, given the current reality we live in, poverty, sickness and many vices, is it easy to think about pure and lovely things?
Personally, sometimes it’s very hard.
Recently, I was listening to the late Charles Stanley’s sermon on thoughts and the points he outlined, really give me a reality check.
– WE SOW A THOUGHT, WE REAP AN ACTION,
– WE SOW AN ACTION AND REAP A HABIT
– WE SOW A HABIT AND REAP A CHARACTER
– WE SOW A CHARACTER AND REAP A DESTINY
No matter how upside down our world may seem and no matter how difficult life may be, let us do our best to think good thoughts toward others and about ourselves.
