Social media platforms have been flooded with calls for justice following the shocking story of Christianah Idowu, a student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), who was allegedly kidnapped, murdered, and buried by her boyfriend, Adeleye Ayomide, a student of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun State.

The incident has sparked widespread anger and demands for accountability, as details of the crime continue to unfold on X (formerly Twitter).

According to reports, Ayomide allegedly abducted Idowu on August 19, 2024, and demanded a ransom of ₦3 million from her family.

After negotiations, he reduced the amount to ₦1.5 million. Idowu’s family managed to raise ₦350,000, which was paid into Ayomide’s sports betting account.

Despite this payment, Ayomide allegedly ceased communication with the family and went on to murder Idowu, burying her body in his family compound in Ikorodu, Lagos.

The story took a darker turn when it was revealed that Ayomide has a history of violence.

According to an X user with the handle @adetejumi, Ayomide had previously murdered his ex-girlfriend in 2018 and his own sister in 2020, with his parents allegedly aware of his actions.

This has fueled public outrage, as many fear that justice may be delayed or denied, citing past cases of femicide in Nigeria that have gone unresolved.

“Authorities started tracing the BVN linked to his sports betting account which he used to receive the ransom. But before they could lock the account, the criminal already withdrew ₦100k.

“Upon investigation, they found his names, his account details. They combed his social media and discovered that he and Chrisianah were friends, they even commented on each other’s posts.

“And the same account number he used to take money from Christianah’s account is the same he has used to beg for giveaways on twitter (@_sekiiiii_ )

“So, operatives hacked his device and started tracking his messages. He had two phones at two different locations. But one was a decoy to fool authorities. But, with the information, Soldiers traced him to his family house in Ikorodu where he was emphatically arrested.

“Upon which they double checked his phones to confirm the bet account, bank account, email. Before taking him into custody. On Tuesday he finally confessed to all the crimes.

The narrative has also drawn attention to the influence of controversial online figures, with some users linking Ayomide’s actions to the teachings of “alpha male” life coaches who have promoted harmful ideologies. The revelation that Ayomide, a 200-level Philosophy student, may have been influenced by such figures has added another layer of concern to the case.

As the investigation continues, Nigerians are demanding swift and decisive action to ensure that Ayomide is held accountable for his crimes.

The case has also reignited debates about the handling of femicide cases in Nigeria, with many calling for systemic changes to prevent such tragedies from recurring.
