Rauf Olaniyan, the deputy governor of Oyo State, has lost his position.
Olaniyan was impeached after the state Assembly’s plenary meeting on Monday adopted the findings of the seven-person panel the chief judge appointed to look into charges of serious misconduct against the deputy governor.
Up to his recent defection to the state’s opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), Olaniyan was elected in 2019 on a combined ticket with the incumbent governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde.
The deputy governor was found guilty, indicted on all charges, and the majority leader of the Assembly, the Honorable Sanjo Adedoyin, read the verdict.
The Assembly approved Olaniyan’s removal from office leaning on section 188(9) of the 1999 constitution (as amended).
