Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has sustained his battle to ensure that his kinsman, former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is completely eased out of the party leadership. Governor Wike, accordingly, celebrated the judgment of the Court of Appeal on Friday in unique ways.

The Rivers Governor, responding to the judgment, subtly mocked the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, after the judgement of the Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on a suit to halt the PDP National Convention holding on Saturday into Sunday in Abuja. Governor Wike, displaying his political sagacity, included Secondus among PDP members to whom the judgment was a victory.

According to Wike: “It is a victory for every member of PDP. He, however, berated Secondus for attempting to obstruct the PDP national convention after he had handed over to the Acting National Chairman, Yemi Akinwonmi, who was PDP National Deputy Chairman (South).

The Rivers State governor sent a strong message that the PDP is prepared for its mission to rescue Nigeria in 2023. He cautioned that the PDP leadership will not permit anyone to come in between the new mission of the party.

Wike had declared: “It is a sign that PDP is prepared for 2023.

“We will not allow any individual or groups to derail the rescue mission of the PDP.

“The title of our convention is ‘Join us to rescue Nigeria’.

“Nigeria is in problem, and we cannot do it alone. We require everybody to work with us for collectively and see how this country can be rescued.

“So, if there is anybody or group who are being used to derail us, PDP will not take it lightly. We are serious about it, and nothing will stop us from rescuing this country.

“PDP should be thanking God Almighty. We should be jubilating and praising God for bringing unity to this country.”

The Rivers Governor had maintained that the judgement of the Appeal Court granted PDP an “unrestrained” right to hold the convention, overriding any other court judgement secured to hinder the convention.

Wike had been in the forefront of the battle to unseat Prince Uche Secondus as PDP national chairman.
