The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, at the LP mega rally on Wednesday for the governorship election in Osun state, fired back at the presidential candidate All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, for belittling the Labour Party at the APC mega rally in Osun State earlier in the week. Obi chided Tinubu, saying that the APC presidential candidate spoke ill of his party out of hatred, but said that the Labour Party will respond with love.
Obi emphasized the rational of labour to human success and survival, saying that “There is dignity in labour.”
According to Peter Obi, “I listened to our national chairman when he said that somebody said that they can labour till death. When they talk like that, when they show you hatred, the Labour Party will show them love. There is dignity in labour.”
He appealed to residents of Osun State to vote for the LP’s governorship candidate, Yusuf Lasun, promising that the Labour Party will guarantee better welfare for citizens.
Obi stated that the Labour Party is determined to change Nigeria, explaining that the way to change Africa’s most populous country is by removing people responsible for its current state.
The LP National Chairman, Julius Abure, told voters in Osun State to resist pressures and inducements to sell their votes during the governorship election on Saturday.
Tinubu at the APC mega rally in Oshogbo had said: “PDP and mushroom parties. Like the Labour Party, they say they are labour, they will labor till death.
“God will not let you become labourers. “You will meet good fortune at home. The good fortune of money, children. You are next.”
The statement had generated resentment in the polity.
