A federal lawmaker representing Plateau South at the National Assembly, Senator Nora Dadu’ut has provided agricultural implements to women and youths of her district aimed at motivating them to go back to farm.

Dadu’ut demonstrated the gesture to over 200 women and youths by also donating cash that will aid them as start up capital.

She said the effort became necessary as the country need to push up its strategy to revamp the economy and provide food that will feed the nation.

The Senator who spoke in Shendam Local Government Area of the State, Thursday, said she is determined to encourage youths and women to excel in agriculture for food security purpose.

Represented by her Legislative aid, Mrs. Rufina Gurumyen, the Senator said the training was facilitated in her bid to ensure the people of her constituency are self employed.

“I believe in sustainable empowerment rather than consumables empowerment, and that informs the reason why I am empowering and organizing this training for my constituents.

“Food as we know is the most important basic human need apart from clothing and shelter, this is reason why food production is being encouraged by the federal government and by the Governor Simon Lalong administration.

“This gesture is in line with the Governor’s yearn for improved food production and his zeal to make Plateau State a fulfilled land of green revolution.

“I am pleased to see one of my dreams being realized. At the end of the 3-day training, they would not go away as they came, as the 200 beneficiaries would acquire better skills and knowledge on farming of Yam, Guinea corn ground nuts and other crops that are widely cultivated in all parts of the senatorial districts”, Dadu’ut said.

The participants however, expressed their happiness to the senator for facilitating such a programme and promise to make the best use of the knowledge gained in agricultural implements and cash acquired from the training.
