The Executive Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government Prince Lanre Sanusi (PLS) has counselled traders to halt indiscriminate trading activities along 2nd and 7th Avenue roads as well as 1st gate axis of Festac, prior its planned rehabilitation.

PLS gave this charge while conducting an on-the-spot assessment of the deplorable 2nd Avenue, 7th Avenue and 1st gate road networks accompanied by his Vice, Hon.Mrs Ashara Maureen and other key officials of the local government on Tuesday.

According to a statement issued by Amuwo Odofin Independent Media (AIM) Director Mr. Kola Folorunso, PLS embarked on the long trek in a bid to make good his electioneering campaign promises to residents in the area and especially those in Festac.

Folorunso said that,“The Executive Chairman Prince Lanre Sanusi on Tuesday carried out a thorough inspection of the damaged roads to assess other deteriorating impactful effects on the community, such as poor drainage system and unhealthy environment that has almost rendered Festac Town unmotorable.

“PLS accompanied by his Vice, Hon.Mrs Ashara Maureen and other key officials of the local government toured the 2nd Avenue road by Alakija as well as Agboju market, 202 roads and 1st gate.

“On the inspection exercise, the council chairman re- affirmed his readiness to facilitate the rehabilitation of the road as promised before his assumption of office, he said illegal business transactions on the major road and walk ways would be a thing of the past once the roads are completed.

“He advised those selling cars and others trading at undesignated areas along 2nd avenue road and other areas in Amuwo to keep to the environmental laws as there would be no sacred cows when official activities will start to reclaim the lost glory of Festac and its environs by the local government.

“At 1st gate area of Festac Town, Prince Lanre Sanusi commended the Federal Housing Authority on the reconstructed Festac first gate which will be opened to vehicular movement very soon.

“The council boss warned car owners and sellers to make all the areas within the 1st gate axis passable for it to conform with the renewal approach the area will be given soon.

“The Police Area E Commander and the Divisional Police Officers of Festac were encouraged by the bold step taken by the local government chairman to facilitate the fixing of the age – long abandoned road right in front of the Police Command, while the duo prayed for Prince Lanre Sanusi for a successful actualisation of his dream.”

It will be recalled that PLS had promised to embark on the massive road construction in the local government before his 100 days in office, and he had just hit the ground running with a feasibility study of the state of the said roads.
