Police arrest 11 cultists in Abeokuta

The police authorities in Ogun State have revealed the arrest of 11 cultists, suspected to be members of the Aiye confraternity in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The cultists were linked to the killing of three persons in one day in the state capital. According to the Police, they were “responsible for the killing of one Olaosebikan Tejuosho ” and two others on March 25.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed that the suspects were identified as – Quadri Ogunsanya, a.k.a Oguns; Jamiu Kehinde, a.k.a General Smart; Makinde Azeez, Makinde Ifajimin, Makinde Fashakin, Adenekan Samuel, a.k.a Adiye; Waris Ismail, Olamilekan Hamsat, a.k.a Diara; Bamidele Waliu, Makinde Faleke and Ajeifa Arifasope.

Oyeyemi said that the police arrested the cultists at Itoku, Abeokuta, after receiving information on their activities. He added that the Command received intelligence that “the cultists, who were involved in a series of bloody cult clashes within the metropolis, were planning another onslaught at the Itoku area.”

CSP Shobiyi Oluwatoshin, officer in charge of the anti-cultist unit, had mobilized his officers to the scene to effect the arrest of the 11 cultists.

CSP Shobiyi Oluwatoshin  stated: “On interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of the dreaded Eiye cult group.

“They confessed their involvement in a series of cult clashes, one of which led to the killing of one Olaosebikan Tejuosho at Isale Abetu area of Abeokuta on the 25th of March 2022.

“They also confessed to being responsible for the killing of one Habib Mego and one other person simply known as School boy (real name unknown) at Omida area of Abeokuta all on the same day.”

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Lanre Bankole, had ordered investigation into past activities of the arrested cultists, including other members of the confraternity.
