The Kano State Police Command has arrested a notorious thug, Auwalu Ali, popularly known as “Auwalu Dan Daba,” over his alleged involvement in coordinating thuggery groups and violent attacks on residents across the state.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspect, aged 26, was taken into custody on January 31, 2026, by officers from the Dorayi Police Division.

According to the command, officers attached to the Dorayi police division carried out the arrest after receiving information linking the suspect to the coordination and organisation of thuggery groups that attack and rob innocent members of the public.

The police spokesman said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to rid Kano metropolis of criminal elements terrorizing law-abiding citizens.

“In a decisive operation based on credible intelligence, police officers attached to Dorayi Division apprehended a notorious thug, Auwalu Ali, popularly known as ‘Auwalu Dan Daba’, who has been coordinating and organising thuggery groups to attack and rob innocent citizens,” the statement said.

In a related development, the command disclosed a separate incident in Sharada Quarters, where police officers responded to a distress call after a suspected armed robber was lynched by a mob.

The statement noted that the incident followed an attack that left a female victim seriously injured. “The victim was rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where a police officer selflessly donated blood, saving her life,” the police said.

The injured woman was stabilized and is currently receiving treatment at the facility.

Commending the officers, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, praised their professionalism and sacrifice. “The Commissioner of Police commended the sacrifice of the officers, particularly the blood donation, and expressed gratitude to the good people of Kano State for their continued support and cooperation,” the statement added.

The command used the opportunity to warn residents against taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing that mob action and jungle justice undermine the rule of law and could lead to the killing of innocent persons.

The police urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies rather than resorting to extrajudicial measures.

The arrest of Auwalu Dan Daba is part of a broader crackdown on organized crime and thuggery in Kano State, as security agencies intensify efforts to restore peace and order in communities plagued by criminal activities.

The suspect is expected to be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
