The Ondo State Police Command has disclosed the arrest of a nurse, a health assistant, and a security guard at the Comprehensive Health Centre, Emure-IIe, Owo Local Government Area, Ondo State, over missing placenta of a baby after birth in the hospital. The paternal grandmother of the baby, Funmilayo Ijanusi, was said to have disclosed that the health workers claimed that a dog came into the premises and took away the baby’s placenta.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State command, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, in a statement narrated that the three health workers were arrested after the 23-year-old father of the newborn baby made a complaint about the incident at Emure-Ile Police Division H.
The PPRO highlighted that a 19-year-old nursing mother gave birth to a baby girl on June 15 at the health centre; adding that when the father of the baby asked for the placenta, the nurse and her assistant could not produce it.
Odunlami-Omisanya that said the two hospital staff and the security guard on duty were invited by the police for interrogation, saying that the case is under investigation at the Emure-Ile Division.
