The Nigeria Police Force has debunked a viral social media video alleging an ongoing terrorist attack in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, describing the claim as entirely false and deliberately crafted to incite panic among residents.

In a statement issued on April 10, 2026, the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, said there was no security breach or terrorist incident in the nation’s capital, contrary to claims made in the widely circulated footage.

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the video was manipulated using unrelated clips sourced from online platforms and presented in a misleading context to create a false narrative of insecurity in Abuja.

“The claims contained in the video are entirely false, misleading, and malicious,” the statement said, adding that the content was designed to cause public fear and undermine confidence in the security framework of the FCT.

The police disclosed that a suspect identified as Pam Joseph has been arrested in connection with the creation and dissemination of the video. The arrest followed intelligence gathering and digital forensic investigations that allegedly traced the origin and circulation of the content to the suspect.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

While acknowledging citizens’ constitutional right to freedom of expression, the Force cautioned that such rights do not cover the intentional spread of false information capable of threatening public peace and national security.

The police urged members of the public to verify information through credible sources before sharing, particularly on social media platforms, and to avoid actions that could incite fear or disorder.

Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining public order, the Nigeria Police Force stated that it will continue to monitor digital spaces and take decisive action against individuals found to be spreading misinformation or engaging in acts capable of destabilising the country.

The Force assured residents of Abuja and Nigerians at large that security agencies remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding lives and property across the Federal Capital Territory.
