The Nigeria Police have engaged in tough battles to transborder criminals in northern boundaries. The Katsina State Police Command, combating transborder crime perpetrators, arrested 30-year-old citizen of Niger Republic, Murtala Rabiu, who specialized in transborder car stealing and drug trafficking, between Nigeria and Niger Republic through Katsina State. Murtala Rabiu, who bears a similar name to Nigerian citizens in the north, was arrested together with three other persons.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Katsina Police Command, Superintendent Gambo Isah, acknowledging the arrest, disclosed that the police found 10 wraps of neatly packed cannabis sativa, (Indian hemp) and 10 sachets of D5 tablets, on the arrested citizen from Niger Republic, Murtala Rabiu, and the other three transborder criminals, including two stolen vehicles being conveyed from Nigeria for sale in Niger Republic.
The PPRO revealed that the police intercepted the drug trafficker along Kalgo – Koza road, riding his unregistered Daylong motorcycle with the packages to Niger Republic.
The PPRO added that the three transborder car thieves were surrounded at a car mechanic workshop where they had gone to fix and repaint the two vehicles to escape to Niger.
The police narrated that Usman Sani, leader of the syndicate, a 55-year-old driver, confessed to the crime, saying he has been in the business about three years.
Sani revealed that they sell Honda CR-V for N300,000, and Toyota Camry at N250,000.
The police indicated that other arrests made include 16 suspected vandals of different government installations, 2 suspected members of a cult group, an armed robber, a motorcycle thief, a bandits’ informant and their food supplier.
The PPRO stated that the Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, CP Sanusi Buba, has issued strong warning to transborder criminals to vacate the state, declaring that the police will make Katsina too hot for them.
