The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has commenced a full investigation into the mysterious death of a 27-year-old woman, identified as Esther Akwaji, who reportedly collapsed and died while eating at her boyfriend’s residence in Dei-Dei, Bwari Area Council of Abuja.
According to available information, the incident occurred on January 21, shortly after Esther, a resident of Nasarawa State, travelled to the FCT to visit family members.
Sources said the young woman left her family home that day, informing relatives that she was heading to a bank in the Dei-Dei area. She, however, failed to return home.
Hours later, family members reportedly received a phone call from a man who identified himself as Esther’s boyfriend and was calling from her mobile phone.

The caller allegedly informed the family that Esther had come to visit him and that he had bought food for both of them.
According to the man’s account, while they were eating, Esther suddenly began vomiting and slumped.
He claimed he immediately rushed her to Kubwa General Hospital for medical attention. Hospital sources reportedly confirmed that Esther was brought in dead.
Suspicion was heightened after the boyfriend allegedly fled the hospital shortly after doctors pronounced Esther dead. His identity has yet to be fully established, and he has remained unreachable since the incident.
The unexplained circumstances surrounding Esther’s death have prompted concern among her family members, who are demanding a thorough investigation to unravel what transpired in the hours leading up to her collapse.
Confirming the incident, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the Command had launched a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
“The corpse has been deposited for autopsy to determine the actual cause of death, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect,” Adeh stated.
Police authorities assured the public that all necessary steps are being taken to track down the suspect and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice, as investigations continue.
