Police operatives in Katsina State have successfully rescued 14 passengers from an attempted kidnapping by bandits in Dan’arau village, located in the Magama-Jibia area of Jibia Local Government. The incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 7:55 p.m.
According to a statement from the police spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, the attackers, armed with dangerous weapons, ambushed two commercial vehicles on the Magama-Jibia road, shooting sporadically in an attempt to abduct the passengers.
Upon receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia led a team of operatives to the scene.
The police engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle, successfully thwarting the kidnapping attempt and rescuing all 14 passengers.
However, two of the rescued passengers sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.
Unfortunately, one of the victims later succumbed to their injuries while receiving care.

ASP Aliyu confirmed that efforts are underway to apprehend the bandits who fled the scene during the confrontation.
He urged the public to continue assisting the police by providing timely information about criminal activities.
Katsina’s Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, commended the officers for their bravery and commitment in rescuing the hostages.
He urged law enforcement personnel to maintain their focus and continued efforts in combating criminal activities within the state.
The police have also called on residents to report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station to assist with ongoing investigations.
