Police restore peace in Onosa after patrol clash leaves three injured

The Lagos State Police Command says it has restored calm in Onosa Community, located in the Elemoro area of Lagos State, following a violent confrontation between its officers and residents on Friday, August 29, 2025.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, six officers from the Elemoro Division were on routine patrol in the early hours of the day when they encountered an angry mob.

The situation reportedly escalated, and in a bid to ensure their own safety, the officers discharged their firearms. Three individuals sustained gunshot injuries and were quickly taken to the hospital for medical attention.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, personally led a team of officers to the troubled area.

His swift intervention resulted in the dismantling of barricades mounted by residents, thereby restoring the free flow of traffic along the affected route.

CP Jimoh also entered the community to hold discussions with youths and local leaders in a bid to ease tensions and foster mutual understanding.

He further extended an invitation to the leaders for ongoing dialogue to resolve grievances and prevent future disturbances.

Meanwhile, the police officers involved in the shooting have been taken into custody as investigations begin.

The Command has pledged a thorough and transparent inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Lagos Police Command assured residents that normalcy has returned, while maintaining a heavy security presence in the community to sustain peace and order.

It also appealed to the public to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and refrain from actions capable of threatening public safety.

The Command promised to provide further updates as investigations unfold.
