Police tighten up on bandits, arrest service providers, doctor, food supplier

The police are beginning to tighten up on bandits in the northwest, utilizing security intelligence to track those providing support services to the bandits. The police succeeded in arresting a 34-year-old doctor, Murtala Umar, suspected to be providing medical services for the bandits, as well as a 45-year-old food supplier, Yakuba Abubakar. They were both arrested in Katsina State by the Police.

The Public Relations Officer of the Katsina State Police Command, Superintendent of Police Gambo Isah, acknowledged that Umar was arrested for allegedly treating bandits who sustained injuries in the forest, adding that Abubakar supplied the bandits with essential commodities.

The 34-year-old medical personnel, Murtala Umar, revealed that he studied Junior Community Health Extension Work at the School of Health Technology, Kankia Local Government Area, Katsina State, operates a chemist at Tashar Mai-Alewa Village, Danmusa Local Government Area.

Umar narrated that the bandits accosted him, displaying sophisticated weapons, threatening him never to reveal their identities or risk losing his life. The bandits further commissioned Umar to be treating their wounded colleagues, threatening to kidnap him if he declines.

However, Umar concealed the business and did not report to the police.

Yakuba Abubakar was identified to manage a provision store at the same community, Tashar Mai-Alewa Village, Danmusa Local Government Area, he allegedly conceded to be foodstuffs supplier to the bandits.

Abubakar was said to have pleaded for pardon after admitting knowing the security implication of his illicit business.

The PPRO, Superintendent of Police Gambo Isah, had disclosed that the arrested suspects will be charged to court after investigations.
