The National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Prof. Rufa’i Alkali, at a press conference in Lagos, stated that any negotiation for merger must not come with the condition that the party’s presidential candidate would step down for the candidate of the negotiating party. Alkali declared that the NNPP is open to alliances towards the 2023 general elections.

The NNPP national chairman affirmed that the party is not opposed to merger talks for a better Nigeria, saying that the ally must share the same values with the NNPP and such merger must be on equality of partners.

Prof, alkali stated: “Parties who want to discuss with the NNPP must do so as an equal partner and must share our views on the future of the country.

“All parties are equal before the law.

The chairman further said that parties should also agree on the level of the alliance either on the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, governorship or presidential election. according to him, “in politics we talk about capacity.”

Alkali, however, stated that “NNPP is a Nigeria project and will usher in a spontaneous change in the nation’s polity.”

The chairman said that the NNPP is the fastest growing party in Nigeria and would soon get the support of majority of Nigerians across the country, adding that the NNPP would remain consistent with its principles which is to better the life of the Nigerian masses.

He expressed disapproval for power rotation, saying that zoning is the bane of the nation’s polity, saying that what is necessary is leadership Nigerians can trust.
