President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the national Assembly are in crucial meeting now to f9ind solution for the emerging severe relations between the arms of government.
National Daily gathered that President Buhari is currently holding an indoor meeting with Right Honourable Yakubu Dogara, Speaker of the House of Representative at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. There were indications that President Buhari will also meet with Dr. Abubakar Bukola Sraki, President of the Senate, this Monday, at the Presidential Villa after the meeting with Dogara.
It was not clear why the President chose to meeting the Speaker and the Senate President separately on issues relating to Executive/Legislature relations, particularly, in the past few months when the National Assembly has been turning down some of the President’s requests on appointment approval, notably, the controversy over the Acting chairman of the Economic and financial crimes commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu. The Magu controversy degenerated into the suspension of the screening and confirmation of the 27 nominees for Residential Electoral Commissioners for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), where the lawmakers insisted that no more confirmation of Presidential appointments until Magu vacates office.
Invariably, these controversies have continued to deepen the disharmony of interests between the Executive and the Legislature in the governance of the country. The meeting is anticipated to deliberate resolving the controversies and restoring cordial executive/legislature relations in the All Progressives Congress (APC) controlled federal government.
Meanwhile, National Daily continues to monitor the meeting for further report on the outcome.
