President Bola Tinubu has barred all ex-Niger Delta militant leaders from visiting him in the presidential villa, Abuja.
It is reported that requests for courtesy visits by notable militant leaders and ethnic militias from the oil-rich region to Tinubu in the villa have lately been disapproved by the presidency.
Asari-Dokubo a staunchest supporter of President Tinubu, backed and supported the president in the run-up to the 2023 presidential election.
According to reports, Tinubu was disturbed by Asari-Dokubo’s public utterances and actions following his visit, The president was said to be bothered that Asari-Dokubo’s “verbal vituperations and militant activities” in the Niger Delta were later linked to him following their meeting in June.
Asari-Dokubo swiped at the Armed Forces, accusing its personnel of being involved in economic sabotage, particularly crude oil theft and vandalism of oil equipment in the region.
The presidency was said to be irritated that his association with the president continued to send message to the public that he had the support and backing of the nation’s most powerful citizens.
Given the foregoing, the president wants to avoid every negative impression and unenviable signal with such association which might create public psyche.
