Mass protest erupted in Benin City, Edo State, in early hours of Monday, as youths under the umbrella of civil society groups rose in agitation of the high price of petrol in the country.

Several Civil society groups under the auspices of the Edo Civil Society Organisations, comprising of Civil Society groups and concerned Citizens of Edo and NANS, took to the streets of Benin City in the early hours to protest the sharp increase in petrol prices across the country.

The protesters displayed placards with the inscriptions: “Edo people rejects N8,000 Palliatives, hike in PMS and N70 billion for Legislators”; “N110 billion for bullet proof cars for Senate President and Rep leaders;” others read; “Senator Godswill Akpabio what do you need bulletproof cars for?
“Nigerians are hungry”;
“N8,000 palliatives, what an insult?”

“Edo Civil Society organisations say no to continuous rise in fuel price, FG allow the poor breath, fuel price is choking us”; among others, to express their grief as they walk through major streets.
They demanded urgent actions from the federal government to end the hardship in the country.
