Rema’s hit single ‘Calm Down’ has made history once again by becoming the first African song to spend a year on the Billboard Hot 100. The Nigerian superstar has been making waves in the music industry with his chart-topping hits and numerous certifications across multiple countries.
Despite dropping five spots to No. 11 in the chart week ending on September 9th, 2023, ‘Calm Down’ still remains a force to be reckoned with as it enters its 52nd week on the chart. The song peaked at No. 3 making it the highest charting Nigerian song and the second highest charting African song after Hugh Masekala’s 1968 single ‘Grazing in the Grass’, which reached No. 1.
Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ was released in February 2022 as one of the lead singles off his debut album ‘Raves & Roses’, and has since become a mega-smash hit, further propelled by the Selena Gomez-assisted remix. The song has broken several records including being the most streamed Afrobeats song in Spotify history and the most viewed music video by a Nigerian artist on YouTube.
The song’s popularity has also earned Rema a nomination for Song of the Year and Collaboration of the Year at the 2023 VMAs. Rema is undoubtedly one of the biggest African artists globally, and his continued success has cemented his place in the music industry. The young superstar has proven that he has what it takes to compete at a global level, and fans can’t wait to see what he has in store for them in the future.
