Residents of Ifelodun Community in Ojokoro Local Council Development Area have stage  peaceful protest to demand for redress on the parallel billings meted on them by ikedc, describing the development as deliberate fleecing of the masses.

The placard wielding protesters besieged IKEDC chapter in Ojokoro with petition to authenticate their claims.

Inscribed in some the placards raised by the scores of protesters includes;”We pay for Maintenance of our Transformer Cables and Fuse to ikedc”,”We are Patriots,We don’t Bypass our Meters-Prepaid/Analog-Don’t Label us with Bad names”,”It is not a sin or crime to be on 33KVA.It is our Right”.

“Stop illegal Disconnection and Harassment of Residents”,”Respect Federal Government Order,By Giving us Prepaid Meters and Stop Estimating Bills”,” Fashola Help us,NERC pls come to our Aid!!!”.

The Secretary of the Residents Association Mrs. Adeola Kehinde recounted some the ordeals of the ikedc customers in question citing the development as uncalled for owing to the good rapport that formerly exist among them and ikedc.

According to her, they have been so receptive with respect to cooperation with ikedc terms all the while as it pertains power supply and had not defaulted in any guise.

“Over a year now the outrageous billings had staggering and each time we cited this untoward development, they stressed the fact that we enjoy steady power supply, which is a right not privilege.

“The last months parallel billing however, informs our protest today as within a compound two bedroom flats are billed N17,600 each 80 percent us here are experiencing it,not minding the disparities in consumption schedules, we are rejecting the bills.

” Also with respects to alleged Meter By passers on prepaid and analog meters, without the collusion of ikedc engineers can that be possible?

” It is also a disturbing development that in spite of the fact that ikedc is most time officially notified on the need to pend an account of vacant flats till when such has an occupant, bills are stacked up which most times translates to debts for the new occupants.

The residents insists if nothing is done to address the anomaly they would rather prefer to be in darkness than be surcharged for no faults of theirs, “let them come and remove their fuse and sell it elsewhere,we prefer to be in darkness than suffer unfettered fleecing,”Adeola reiterated.
