The News Agency of Nigeria reports that other positions were returned unopposed as Emma Acha from NAN emerged Secretary of the Union.
Speaking after the election, Udekwe promised to take the council to a greater height and to carry everybody along in his administration.
He thanked his opponent for her understanding that election is not a do or die affair, which he said created a room for free, fair and credible election.
Udekwe also thanked the outgone chairman, Rex Arum, for creating an enabling enviroment for the election which, he said, had ushered in a new era.
“Arum created the enabling environment for the new transition of power and I promise not to disappoint him and the union at large.
“I cannot end this my speech without appreciating the NUJ president, Mr Christ Isiguzo, for his unbiased nature to the election.
“Isiguzo is a man of peace and he still holds on to the peace he created in NUJ Enugu state since the beginning of his administration,” Udekwe said.
Arum, in his remarks, said that the election was free, fair and credible.
“I am happy that someone has come to replace me and I feel elated that two of them worked under my administration.
“Today, the better side won. NUJ decided and they voted for the person they felt will do better.
“My advice to the new exco is that they should work hard because the prayer of every father is for his son to do better than him.
“Enugu NUJ remains one family and I believe that the winner of today’s election will carry everybody along” Arum said.
