Sammy Gyamfi, others sue Ghanaian government over mandatory COVID-19 vaccination

A Ghanaian lawyer and politician Sammy Gyamfi alongside other like minds have sued the Ghana Health Service and the country’s government over mandatory COVID-19 vaccination imposed on Ghanaians.

It would be recalled that a 20-year old Legon student, Albert Owusu Sarpong, allegedly died a few days after taking the COVID-19 vaccine, prompting the setting up a #tag demanding justice for the late student.

A friend of the deceased, identified as Joshua Wonder, said he complained of dizziness after taking the shot.

He disclosed that Albert took the vaccine on Monday, December 13, 2021, and started complaining after they got to their room.

Twitter has been on fire since the announcement of the death of Albert. Actress and video vixen Efia Odo has been championing the campaign against the vaccine.

Sammy Gyamfi who is the current National Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress in Ghana has been part of the movement campaigning against the vaccine.

The court papers made available to National Daily and dated December 20, 2021, has Sammy Gyamfi, Bernard Ackah Blah and Mawuko Kwame and Berys Ama Sarpong as applicants, while the Attorney-General, GHS and Ghana Airport Company were joined as respondents.

The applicants are demanding for the enforcement of fundamental human rights, including a declaration that the impugned directives of the respondents breach or threaten to breach the Applicants fundamental human rights as enshrined under Article 21(1) (g) of the 1992 constitution of Ghana.

“A declaration that the impugned directives of the Respondents violated section 2(1) of the imposition of restrictions Act, 2020 (ACT 1012) and section 21, 22 and 30 of the Public Health Act, 2012 (ACT851) and therefore illegal.

They are also asking for a declaration that the impugned directives of the Respondents contravene medical ethics and best practices that govern COVID-19 vaccine administration as well as an order of Certiorari to bring before the Court the impugned directives of the Respondents to be quashed as having been made without any constitutional or legal and/ or reasonable basis whatsoever.

An order of prohibition and/or injunction directed at the Respondents, their agents and /or assigns, restraining them jointly or severally from taking any steps contained in the impugned directives, relating to the implementation of compulsory COVID-19 vaccination at Kotoka international Airport (KIA) constituting restrictions on the freedom of entry into Ghana of citizens and the freedom of leaving Ghana of all persons.
