The Senate of the Nigerian National Assembly has commenced probing of the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Umana Okon Umana, on allegations of diverting N480 billion from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) as Special Intervention Fund, without appropriation by the National Assembly.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, chaired by Senator, Patrick Ayo Akinyelure, PDP, Ondo Central, explained that the Senate invited the Minister after receiving several public petitions.
One of the such petitions, the committee noted, alleged that “Umana Umana has perfected a plot to secure approval from President Muhammadu Buhari to access the facility with the CBN under the guise of using the slush fund on some special legacy projects.”
