The Senate has reiterated its commitment to supporting the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in its efforts to transform Nigeria’s education sector.

This pledge was made during an oversight visit by the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund to JAMB’s headquarters on Tuesday.

Senator Muntari Dandutse, Chairman of the Committee, assured the Board that the Senate would continue to provide the necessary resources and legislative support to help JAMB advance its mission.

He emphasized the committee’s dedication to working collaboratively with the Board to enhance the accessibility and efficiency of the country’s tertiary admission processes.

“We will continue to work together to secure the resources and legislative backing that JAMB needs to reach even greater heights,” Dandutse said, urging the Board to uphold its standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability as it adapts to the evolving demands of the education sector.

He also highlighted the committee’s commitment to improving access to Computer-Based Testing (CBT) centres, especially in underserved regions of the country, to ensure that every Nigerian student has an equal opportunity to participate in JAMB exams.

Dandutse further noted that the 10th Senate is dedicated to raising Nigeria’s educational standards to meet global benchmarks, aiming to curb the increasing trend of students migrating abroad for higher education.

“JAMB has played an essential role in shaping Nigeria’s educational landscape, coordinating admissions into tertiary institutions,” he said, underscoring the importance of the Board’s ongoing reforms. “These reforms have been vital in promoting fairness, transparency, and merit-based admissions.”

Among JAMB’s key accomplishments, Dandutse pointed to the introduction of digital registration processes, biometric verification, and streamlined testing procedures, which have significantly improved the efficiency and transparency of the admission process.

He noted that these innovations have not only bolstered confidence in JAMB but have also positioned Nigeria as a global leader in the use of technology for educational assessments.

“The reforms implemented by JAMB have transformed the admissions process, and we are confident that the Board will continue to make strides in making education more accessible and efficient for all Nigerians,” Dandutse concluded.
