The Senate, at a closed door session on Wednesday, endorsed the motion by Senator Tony Nwoye to restrain state governments from making laws for deduction of funds from local government allocations.
The Senate also resolved to amend the constitution for full autonomy of local governments in Nigeria.

The Senate on Wednesday convened a closed session to consider the motion by Senator Tony Nwoye relating to attempts by certain state governors to make laws for deduction of funds from allocations of Local Governments.

The Senate at the closed session adopted the following resolutions on the motion:
1. All states and local governments to fully comply with the recent Supreme Court judgment on disbursement and utilization of funds allocated to all local governments in Nigeria.
2. That the senate ensures alterations to relevant provisions of the constitution to provide for the full autonomy for the local governments in Nigeria.
