Senator Adams Oshiomhole has expressed strong opposition to the proposed establishment of a Nigerian Coast Guard, asserting that the Nigerian Navy is already effectively safeguarding the country’s maritime areas.
During a Senate plenary session on October 15, 2024, Oshiomhole raised concerns about the proliferation of new agencies, citing examples like the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
He argued that these bodies have not made significant contributions to enhancing safety and security in Nigeria.
