Sergeant kills army Captain, self in Chibok

The Nigerian Army recorded a fatal incident on Sunday as a soldier identified as 93NA/36/2608, Staff Sergeant, Silas Ninyo, shot dead Captain T. Mani, who attempted to stop him from beating innocent civilians in Chibok, Borno State before eventually turning the gun on himself.
The soldier, a Staff Sergeant was said to have allegedly engaged at assaulting and flogging some civilians in the town and was reported to his commander.
As a senior officer, the Captain was said to have wielded, find out what transpired with a view to stopping him from carrying out further assault.
A source revealed that “The captain found out that the soldier was actually flogging people and assaulting them. In the process, the Captain decided to disarm the soldier but instead of obliging, the Staff Sergeant pulled the trigger and fired the captain.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has instituted a Board of Inquiry (BOI) to unravel what led to the shooting that resulted in the death of an army Captain and a Senior noncommissioned Officer at Chibok in Borno.
In a statement by the Director, Army Public Relations, (DAPR) Brig Gen. Sani Usman said the incident occurred on Sunday, where the officers were deployed.
Usman said the BOI was expected to turn in its report and findings in one week.
According to him, “The Headquarters of 28 Task Force Brigade received a report at about 12.50 .m. on Sunday that a staff was seen to be drunk and misbehaving to civilians.
“An officer was despatched to the scene with a view to bringing him back to base.
“The officer did his best but the SNCO refused several entreaties to calm him and be disarmed by the superior officer.
“Unfortunately, the Staff Sergeant shot the officer dead and then killed himself.
“Their remains have since been evacuated to a military facility,”he said,.
He said that the army “is a disciplined and professional force with zero tolerance for any acts of indiscipline and misdemeanour.”
