At least six Nigerian soldiers were killed and five others injured after a military convoy hit an explosive device along the Damasak–Kareto road in Borno State on Sunday.
According to sources, the convoy was en route to Damasak for operational clearance when one of the vehicles ran over a buried improvised explosive device (IED). Residents in the area attributed the attack to Boko Haram fighters reportedly active in the region.
Eyewitnesses said six soldiers died at the scene, while the five injured personnel were immediately evacuated to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Videos circulating on social media showed a heavily damaged military vehicle, confirming the severity of the blast.

The Nigerian military had not released an official statement at the time of filing this report, and the extent of the operational impact on the ongoing mission in the area remains unclear.
Security analysts warn that such attacks highlight the persistent threat of Boko Haram insurgency in Borno and the Lake Chad Basin, emphasizing the need for enhanced intelligence, route clearance, and preventive measures to protect military personnel operating in high-risk zones.
Local residents expressed concern over the increasing use of IEDs by insurgents, noting that these attacks not only endanger soldiers but also compromise security operations and civilian safety in the region.
As military operations continue in Borno State, officials are expected to investigate the incident and intensify patrols to prevent further ambushes along key road networks.
