In a dramatic political move on Friday, the South Korean National Assembly voted to impeach acting President Han Duck-soo, accusing him of actively participating in an insurrection following his predecessor’s declaration of martial law earlier this month.

The announcement was made by National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik, who confirmed that the motion to impeach Han had passed unanimously.

“I announce that Prime Minister Han Duck-soo’s impeachment motion has passed. Out of the 192 lawmakers who voted, all 192 voted in favor of the impeachment,” Speaker Woo Won-shik declared during the session.

The impeachment stems from allegations that Han, who had been serving as acting president after the departure of the previous leader, supported actions that were seen as undermining democratic processes and exacerbating the political crisis.

The martial law, declared earlier in December, marked a significant escalation in tensions within the country, with Han’s involvement drawing sharp criticism from lawmakers and public figures alike.

As the situation continues to unfold, the political landscape in South Korea remains tense, with many questioning the future of the country’s leadership and the path forward in the wake of the impeachment.
