An international human rights activist, Reno Omokri, has slammed Professor Wole Soyinka, berating him over double standards on issues of national leadership in Nigeria. Omokri chided Soyinka for his pacific silence when the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu sponsored ‘occupy Nigeria’ when Dr. Goodluck Jonathan was President of Nigeria, declaring the former president R.I.P. while he was in office for increasing the pump price of petrol to N150 per liter but rose to condemn the Pyrates confraternity for their anti-Tinubu song.
Omokri also asserted that “Wole Soyinka who insulted Patience Jonathan, calling her a hippopotamus, is now upset that the Pyrates confraternity, which he founded, is mocking Tinubu?”
Omokri in some tweets on his official twitter handle Reno Omokri@renoomokriwrote: “When Tinubu sponsored Occupy Naija, where then President Jonathan’s photo was placed on a coffin and labelled RIP, why did Soyinka not call it distasteful, as he did with the Pyrates anti-Tinubu song? “Wole Soyinka is too respected to display such double standards.”#TableShaker
“Wole Soyinka who insulted Patience Jonathan, calling her a hippopotamus, is now upset that the Pyrates confraternity, which he founded, is mocking Tinubu? He called it tasteless! “Not that I support it. But if it must be condemned, surely it should not be by Soyinka!
“Where was Wole Soyinka when Tinubu insulted Obidients by calling Labour a “mushroom” party, whose members “will labour till death”? Is that Pyrates song Soyinka called ‘distasteful’ as bad as wishing death on Labour Party members? Why didn’t Soyinka condemn Tinubu?” #TableShaker
