Spurs contract length is none of my business – Conte

Antonio Conte has no concerns over the length of his contract with Tottenham, having signed an 18-month deal with the club.

Conte was confirmed as Spurs’ new head coach on Tuesday and claimed victory in his first game in charge on Tuesday as Tottenham beat Vitesse 3-2 in the Europa Conference League.

The former Juventus, Chelsea and Inter boss has left his last two posts after just two seasons in charge, parting with the Nerazzurri over a reported dispute with the club’s board despite having led them to the Serie A title last campaign, breaking Juve’s hold on the Scudetto.

But he is confident he can build something for the long term at Tottenham despite his recent history.

“The contract is okay for me, the hope is I find the right connection for this club for a long time for sure,” Conte told a media conference ahead of Tottenham’s Premier League clash with Everton.

“I think my contract is not a problem. Eighteen months and we decided. I understood also what this club did for me. We can work together for a long time.”

Conte inherits the situation surrounding star striker Harry Kane, who had asked to leave the club in the close season, though a move to Manchester City did not come to fruition.

Kane has scored just once in nine Premier League games this season, his lone goal coming in Tottenham’s 3-2 win at Newcastle United last month,

“We’re talking an important player, not only for Tottenham but also for the national team,” Conte said of Kane.

“Harry is a really good player and for sure we have to work with him and all the players to improve this situation.

“I have seen this past few days that we need to work a lot to improve many aspects for every single player and not only one, two, three.”
