The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned power outage affecting parts of Ibadan, Oyo State, to facilitate the integration of a new 63MVA mobile transformer at the Eleyele 132/33kV Transmission Substation.
In a statement released by TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the outage is scheduled for Wednesday, May 21, and Thursday, May 22, 2025, between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. each day.
The affected areas include Eleyele, the University of Ibadan (UI), and the Ibadan North region.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announces that its contractor will be connecting a new 63MVA mobile transformer at the Eleyele 132/33kV Transmission Substation to the grid on Wednesday, May 21, and Thursday, May 22, 2025. The work will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on both days.”
During this period, bulk power will be temporarily diverted from the Iwo-Iseyin-Oyo 132kV lines to the Osogbo 132kV line.
This diversion will result in the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) being unable to supply electricity to customers in the specified areas for approximately eight hours each day.

TCN has apologized for the inconvenience, emphasizing that the transformer integration is crucial for enhancing bulk power transmission to IBEDC and significantly improving the quality of electricity supply in the affected region.
This initiative is part of TCN’s broader efforts to upgrade Nigeria’s power infrastructure, aiming to ensure more reliable and efficient electricity delivery to consumers nationwide.
Residents and businesses in Eleyele, UI, and Ibadan North are advised to make necessary arrangements to mitigate the impact of the temporary power outage.
