The Ekiti State Government on Tuesday clarified that the ongoing verification exercise for primary school teachers across the state is not designed to witch hunt anyone as being peddled in some quarters.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Prof Adio Folayan, gave the clarification while monitoring the exercise in Ado Local Government Area.
Rather, he explained, that government embarked on the exercise to update its staff members’ records and flush out ghost workers from the system.
He stressed that the exercise was not particularly targeted at anyone or group, adding that a similar exercise was carried out for local government workers last year.
He gave teachers in the state the assurance that the present administration would not sack any worker unjustifiably, urging the teachers not to panic.
The Commissioner lauded the conduct of the teachers who had so far participated in the exercise, and promised that government would continue to prioritise their welfare.
Responding, one of the teachers, Mrs Blessing Ogunware, described the exercise as commendable.
She expressed gratitude to the government for prioritising the welfare of teachers in the state since assuming office.
