there is rising tension after a bomb explosion was confirmed by the Police to have killed 28 herdsmen and hundreds of cattle in Doma Local Government Area, Nasarawa State. Meanwhile, the State Police Command said that contacts have been made with Fulani leaders and Emirs to prevent reprisal attacks in the state.
The police were said to have narrated that the herdsmen were returning from Benue State on Tuesday with their cattle which they had repossessed from forest guards who had seized the herds when the bomb explosion occurred.
National Daily gathered that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Maiyaki Muhammed, in an interview with Channels Television in Lafia, confirmed the explosion.
Also, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, confirming the bomb blast, stated that measures have been put in place to guarantee peace in the state.
CP Muhammed was cited to have narrated: “they went to collect their cows from Benue that were seized from Benue Guards. From there, they heard a kind of explosion which result in the death of so many lives.
“To the best of my knowledge, as at yesterday, 27 people were buried. Information available to us also has it that one person who was also admitted here in Lafia also died. That for now is the information we have; we don’t have more than that.”
CP Muhammed added that the police are in contact with the leaders of Fulani herders and the Emirs in the area to forestall reprisals.
