There is rising tension in Anambra State as the Nigerian Army commenced the military exercise in southeast Nigeria code named Operation Golden Dawn. The rising tension is precipitated by the fear of residents over alleged searching of people’s telephones by the Army for information on the Biafra struggle.

Certain residents had on Saturday raised alarm that over 300 troops were deployed some big towns in Anambra State.

A resident had alerted on social media: “What is happening just now is that more than 300 troops of the Nigerian Amry are in Nnobi, Nnewi, Onitsha, Ekwulobia, Ogidi, Idemili, to commence Operation Golden Dawn.

“They started in Nnewi today, searching for anything that connects the people with Biafran struggle.

“Please delete any news of killings in your phones either text or flags, etc.

“Keep Android phones in your house, rather, patronize your Nokia touch phones now for your own safety….

“Please share this information to all groups and platforms.”

Anambra was last under the threat of state of emergency following raising indigence of killings and attacks by gunmen in the state.

There have been insinuations of most of the killings being carried out by external forces, though, the claims were not verified.

However, the military exercise is taking place in other parts of the country. The military announced the various operations across the country a fortnight ago.
